How campgrounds are run in Manitoba
Manitoba Parks seasonal jobs
Manitoba Parks hires paid park attendants for campground offices and gates, maintenance workers for campsites and washrooms, activity coordinators and supervisors. Most seasonal jobs are posted in winter for the following summer. Some parks have shared bunkhouses, but check each competition for eligibility and housing.
Volunteer campground hosts
Manitoba Parks takes volunteer hosts at nine campgrounds. Hosts get a free seasonal campsite, bring their own camping gear and must be there every weekend from the May long weekend to Labour Day. Riding Mountain National Park has a separate federal host program at Lake Audy and Moon Lake.
Park district offices
Groups of provincial parks are managed by district offices, and a small forest campground may have no website of its own. The district office can explain who staffs a park and point you to the right job competition. The reservation line is for bookings, not jobs.
Commercial leases and permits
Businesses work in provincial parks under Parks Controlled Miscellaneous Leases (PCMLs) and Parks Controlled General Permits (PCGPs), with tenders posted on MERX. A few parks, such as St. Ambroise Beach, are run by a private operator. This is business work, not a wage.
Town and municipal campgrounds
Many towns and rural municipalities run their own campgrounds, some with a campground caretaker. Contact the town office to learn whether staff are town employees or work under a contract. Manitoba's watershed districts (former conservation districts) are not a campground employer network.
Paid jobs, volunteer hosting and contracts
Paid jobs exist with Manitoba Parks (park attendant, maintenance, Green Team for youth), municipalities and private campgrounds such as Rubber Ducky Resort. Volunteer hosting is offered by Manitoba Parks and Riding Mountain National Park, and commercial leases, permits and MERX tenders cover businesses operating inside provincial parks.
