How campgrounds are run in Northwest Territories
ITI owns the parks, contractors run them
ITI keeps responsibility for the territorial parks but buys park operations and maintenance (O&M) through tenders. Local businesses win these contracts park by park. Separate contracts can cover narrower work such as sanitary maintenance, day-use cleaning or security.
Ask the regional parks office who is hiring
There are five parks regions: North Slave, South Slave, Dehcho, Beaufort Delta and Sahtu. Each has a public phone number, and the central contact is [email protected] or 867-767-9206. Ask which business operates a park this season and how it recruits.
Who your employer is matters
A contractor may hire workers, use subcontractors or do the work itself. Before you apply, ask whether the role is paid employment, a business contract or volunteer work, the season and hours, whether couples can apply, whether you need your own RV, and what housing, utilities and travel are provided.
Government and federal routes
GNWT Careers lists government jobs and student programs. Parks Canada has described volunteer campground hosts at Pine Lake in Wood Buffalo National Park, who receive a free campsite, but that program needs to be confirmed for the next season.
Paid jobs, volunteer hosting and contracts
Most campground work is tied to operations and maintenance contracts that GNWT awards to local businesses (for example Bobby Ross Cleaning at Happy Valley and Jàk, Level Up Contracting at Blackstone). Paid government jobs are posted on GNWT Careers, and Parks Canada has run a volunteer campground host program at Pine Lake in Wood Buffalo National Park.
