How campgrounds are run in Nova Scotia
Provincial camping parks
The province runs 20 camping parks. Paid jobs are posted on the Government of Nova Scotia Jobs portal. Search for park attendant, camping park attendant, maintenance worker and seasonal rather than camp host.
Provincial volunteer host program
Volunteer hosts at 16 provincial parks get a free campsite. You must be 19 or older and a Nova Scotia resident, and serve at least one week, four hours a day, five days a week. An interview, training, a police check and a Child Abuse Registry search are required.
Kejimkujik host program
Parks Canada runs its own volunteer host programme at Jeremy's Bay Campground in Kejimkujik. Hosts must be 18 or older, usually stay one or two weeks and get a host site, firewood and park entry. The provincial residency rule does not apply here.
Private and community campgrounds
Private parks such as Ovens and Shubie hire their own seasonal staff, and some private campgrounds offer a site in exchange for work. Ask each operator whether a role is paid, volunteer or a site exchange. The COANS job board lists ads from member campgrounds.
Tenders
Provincial and municipal tenders are posted on the province's public tender site, which can email registered suppliers. No current whole-campground operating tender was found.
Paid jobs, volunteer hosting and contracts
Paid seasonal jobs exist with the province, Parks Canada and private parks such as Ovens Natural Park. Volunteer hosting exists in the provincial host program and at Kejimkujik, and Digby Campground has offered a full-hookup site for part-time work. Tenders are posted on the province's tender site, but no live campground operating tender was verified.
