How campgrounds are run in Nunavut
Nunavut Parks and community committees
Nunavut Parks and Special Places is the territorial program that owns the parks. Community Joint Planning and Management Committees help plan and manage them, but sitting on a committee does not make someone an employer. Contact [email protected] or 867-975-7700 to find out who services a particular campground.
Paid park jobs are advertised as competitions
The Government of Nunavut posts park jobs such as Park Maintenance Officer and Park Coordinator on its job listings. Each posting sets its own eligibility, hours, housing and Inuit hiring rules. Both 2026 park competitions found in the research have closed.
Local maintenance agreements and tenders
Regional coordinators arrange seasonal maintenance contracts or agreements with hamlets and Inuit organizations. Public tenders appear on Nunavut Tenders, and past awards can be found in the public contract disclosure. Park contracting follows procedures meant to increase Inuit participation in park business and employment.
National parks are separate
Auyuittuq, Sirmilik and other national parks are run by Parks Canada under cooperative management with Inuit. Federal jobs are posted on the Parks Canada jobs page. A national park does not mean there is a drive-in campground or a host placement.
Paid jobs, volunteer hosting and contracts
Paid government jobs exist, such as the 2026 Park Maintenance Officer in Kugluktuk and Park Coordinator in Kimmirut (both closed). Seasonal maintenance is also handled through contracts or agreements with hamlets and Inuit organizations and through Nunavut Tenders. No volunteer RV host program was found.
