How campgrounds are run in Ontario
Ontario Parks and the St. Lawrence Parks Commission
Ontario Parks hires seasonal front-counter, maintenance, labour, interpretation and supervisory staff through the Ontario government job portal, mostly in spring. Contracts commonly run 8 to 42 weeks, and some parks offer staff housing. The St. Lawrence Parks Commission is a separate provincial agency with its own careers page.
Conservation authority campgrounds
Many conservation authorities run campgrounds and hire gate attendants, park technicians, maintenance and patrol staff each season. Not every conservation area offers camping, so check each authority. On 1 February 2027 the 36 authorities are due to merge into nine regional authorities, so job portals may change.
Township backcountry camping
Haliburton Highlands Water Trails (Township of Algonquin Highlands) and North Frontenac Parklands run reservable backcountry and water-access campsites. They hire trail office and stewardship staff rather than a resident host at each site. Past postings said housing was not provided.
Municipal and First Nation campgrounds
Cities and towns such as Thunder Bay and Atikokan run campgrounds, while others hand them to an operator, such as Anicinabe Park in Kenora. Cape Croker Park is run by the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, and Mississagi Provincial Park is run by a First Nations and municipal partnership. The campground name is not always the employer's name.
Crown land is not a job
You can legally camp on much Ontario Crown land, but unmanaged land has no on-site employer. Look for a named operator, a managed reservation system or a real job notice.
Paid jobs, volunteer hosting and contracts
Paid seasonal jobs are the main route (Ontario Parks, conservation authorities, municipalities, Parks Canada). Volunteer hosting is verified at Pukaskwa National Park's Hattie Cove; Presqu'ile no longer has its host program. Business opportunities such as concessions and maintenance services appear on procurement pages like GRCA's Biddingo listings, and no open full-campground operating tender was found.
